Christianity Today’s 2018 Book of the Year. In the overlooked moments and routines of our day, we can become aware of God’s presence in surprising ways. How do we embrace the sacred in the ordinary and the ordinary in the sacred?
Framed around one ordinary day, this book explores daily life through the lens of liturgy, small practices, and habits that form us. Each chapter looks at something—making the bed, brushing her teeth, losing her keys—that the author does every day. Drawing from the diversity of her life as a campus minister, Anglican priest, friend, wife, and mother, Tish Harrison Warren opens up a practical theology of the everyday. Each activity is related to a spiritual practice as well as an aspect of our Sunday worship.
Come and discover the holiness of your every day.
?Heresy and the Formation of the Rabbinic Community (Texts and Studies in Ancient Judaism) by David M Grossberg

Between the first and sixth centuries C.E., a group of sages that scholars refer to as the rabbinic community systematized their ideas about Judaism in works such as the Mishnah and the Talmud. David M. Grossberg offers a new approach to thinking about this community’s formation. Rather than seeking an occasion of origin, he examines the gradual development of the idea of an authorized rabbinic collective. The classical rabbinic texts imagine a diverse setting of Sadducees, Pharisees, sinners, and sectarians interacting in complex and changing ways with pious sages, teachers, and judges. Yet this representation aligns only vaguely with the social reality in which these ancient sages actually lived and operated. The author contends that these texts’ primary aim was not to describe real rabbinic opponents but to create and enforce boundaries between rabbis and others and within the emerging rabbinic movement.

The ancient Chinese art of Feng-Shui, the basis of man’s relationship with the land, has practitioners and followers throughout the Western world, from rural communities to big cities. Not just an Eastern practice any more, Feng-Shui can be found around the globe.
Feng-Shui is an art that stresses the importance of living in harmony with nature. The Chinese believe that the earth has channels of energy known as ‘dragon-lines’, comparable with the meridians of the human body, and the buildings, towns and rooms should be designed and constructed so as not to obstruct these channels. According to the principles of Feng-Shui, living in harmony with the earth’s field of energy will promote prosperity, peace and happiness.
Living Earth Feng Shui is a fascinating book which outlines how Feng-Shui can be applied on a small or large scale, in the busiest cities or the smallest room. Author Stephen Skinner outlines its history and philosophy, clearly showing how it can be used to determine the site and arrangement of dwelling places in order to enhance the quality of life of the inhabitants. This is the perfect book for those new to Feng-Shui or someone who is interested in expanding their knowledge.

Author Jennifer Rothschild has a story for you. It’s about an unlikely couple, an unusual courtship, a beautiful wedding, and an illicit affair. Despite this situation, the marriage did not fail. It flourished. Here is the story of Hosea’s love for Gomer-a woman who might have disappeared into her transgressions if not for the love of her husband. It’s a beautiful illustration of the story of God and Israel.
Believe it or not, it’s your story too. God chose you and loves you.
If you wander off, He will find you.
If you are afraid, He will reassure you.
If you are broken, He will restore you.
If you are ashamed, He will cover you.
If you give up on Him, He will not give up on you.
No matter where you are, God sees who you are and loves you faithfully. Through the story of Hosea and Gomer, God tenderly reaches out to you and whispers, “My daughter, my name and nature are love. My name makes you lovely. Because I am worthy, I make you worthy. I am here to remind you of who you are. You are never invisible to me.”
